Hanoi FC: Paying tribute to and preserving historical and traditional values.

Having been involved in Vietnamese football for 20 years, investing in and establishing Hanoi FC, Chairman of T&T Group Do Quang Hien not only hopes that Hanoi FC will be a football club that lasts for several decades or even a century, but much longer.

In everything he does, Mr. Do Quang Hien cherishes and preserves historical and traditional values in all fields, not just football. For Chairman Hien, "gratitude" means being thankful, while "preserving historical and traditional values" means conserving and promoting the beautiful aspects of culture and morality, reminding present and future generations to live in a way that is worthy of the glorious past.

REVIVING THE GOLDEN PAST

On the occasion of April 30, 2024, Mr. Hien established the Hanoi Former Football Players Club (Hanoi Former Players Club) to express gratitude and reflect on the club's formation and development, aiming for a brighter future for Hanoi football.

Chairman Hien shared that the establishment of the Hanoi Football Club has a humanitarian significance as it brings together and honors the contributions of previous generations. They are role models for future generations to follow on the path of success that Hanoi Football Club has been and continues to achieve.

Chairman Hien established a team of former Hanoi T&T players to pay tribute to and look back on the journey of building, developing, and maturing of the capital's football team.

Mr. Do Vinh Quang, son of Mr. Hien and now the Chairman of Hanoi FC, and also the Chairman of the Hanoi Construction Workers' Club, said he will continue what Mr. Hien has built to make Hanoi FC what it is today. Mr. Vinh Quang shared: “Since I was young, I have heard about the glorious tradition of Hanoi football and the beautiful impression it has left on fans of clubs like The Cong, Hanoi Police, General Department of Railways, Capital Military Region, Hanoi Construction Workers… Therefore, the Hanoi Construction Workers' Club will be a place to preserve, promote, and publicize the historical values of Hanoi football, especially creating conditions for former players to help each other in life.”

Following the idea of Chairman Hien, the "Veterans of the Liberation of Hanoi 2024" football tournament was organized to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024) and the 68th anniversary of the founding of the Hanoi Police football team (October 10, 1956 - October 10, 2024).

The tournament included four teams: Hanoi Police, T&T Hanoi, The Cong, and Hai Phong Police, featuring former national team players from various generations such as Nguyen Cao Cuong, Hoa Manh Hung, Dang Phuong Nam, Pham Nhu Thuan, Nguyen Manh Dung, Nguyen Duc Thang, Vu Cong Tuyen, Thach Bao Khanh, Nguyen Quoc Trung, Pham Thanh Luong (Luong Di), Chu Van Mui, Pham Tien Dung, Dinh The Nam, Hoang Van Phuc, Van Sy Hung, Nguyen Huu Dang, Chu Dinh Nghiem, Van Sy Son, Pham Minh Duc, and Duong Hong Son…

Even the head and deputy head of the tournament organizing committee are two legendary players from the 1990s: Nguyen Chi Cong (Hanoi Police) and Trieu Quang Ha (The Cong), with Quang Ha being a key figure in leading newcomer T&T Hanoi from the Third Division to the V-League in three years, an achievement that no one has been able to accomplish to this day.

As a former player for The Cong FC, who later played for the Vietnamese national team and became the coach of T&T Hanoi FC, Mr. Trieu Quang Ha understands Hanoi football very well, and from that, he appreciates even more the dedication and approach to football by Chairman Hien. Mr. Quang Ha said that besides professional achievements on the field, Chairman Hien pays great attention to the off-field lives of the players, and on many occasions, at Chairman Hien's request, Mr. Quang Ha has represented Hanoi FC to visit and give gifts to famous Hanoi football players who are in difficult circumstances.

CHERISHING TRADITIONAL VALUES

With Chairman Hien's philosophy of "eating, sleeping, and breathing football," to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025), midfielder Do Hung Dung and central defender Nguyen Thanh Chung represented Hanoi FC in presenting gifts and expressing gratitude to the renowned players from Southern Vietnam who left their mark on football fields across Southeast Asia and Asia.

On the morning of April 18th, coinciding with the team's trip to the South to play against Becamex Binh Duong in Round 19 of the V-League 2024-2025, Hung Dung and Thanh Chung held a gathering at Tao Dan Stadium (Ho Chi Minh City) to express their gratitude to the veteran members of the Ho Chi Minh City Former Football Players Association (CH CCT TP.HCM).

Hanoi FC players Hung Dung and Thanh Chung paid tribute to former Ho Chi Minh City football players.

Also on this occasion, the Ho Chi Minh City Veterans Association and Hanoi Club presented signed jerseys from renowned players and players of both teams. Besides Mr. Ho Nguyen, former Head of the Sports Department of the Saigon Giai Phong newspaper and currently the General Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Veterans Association, there were six other famous players: defender Phan Duong Cam; midfielder Ho Thanh Cang; forwards Tu Le, Tran Van Xinh, Duong Van Tha; and goalkeeper Luu Kim Hoang. Two of them played for the Customs team, and the other four played for the Saigon Port team after the liberation of South Vietnam.

Among these six legendary athletes, the oldest is 84-year-old Phan Duong Cam, a member of the South Vietnamese team that won the 1966 Merdeka Cup, a prestigious and highly reputable tournament in Asia at the time. The others also represented South Vietnam at the SEAP Games from 1967 to 1973 (in 1977, the Southeast Asian Games changed its name from SEAP Games to SEA Games after Indonesia and the Philippines joined as members).

Vietnamese football has countless memorable moments since the historic day of April 30, 1975, especially the matches that marked the reunification of Vietnamese football, such as the first friendly matches between the North and South, and the classic games between the General Department of Railways (Hanoi) and Saigon Port and Customs (Ho Chi Minh City) in 1976.

Therefore, the activities of Hung Dung and Thanh Chung, as well as Hanoi FC, dedicated to these legendary players and veterans are very meaningful, as they demonstrate the younger generation's respect for the traditional values of their forefathers.

NEVER FORGET GRATITUDE

Regardless of who has contributed to Hanoi FC, whether a domestic or foreign player, their contributions are appreciated and never forgotten – that is the management philosophy of Chairman Hien.

Cristiano Roland, a player who won the V-League with Hanoi FC in 2010 and 2013, is now the coach of the Hanoi U17 team, which has won the national championship for two consecutive years (2024, 2025). Roland is also the coach of the Vietnam U17 team, which has qualified for the U17 Asian Championship finals for two consecutive years (2025, 2026), and of course, Roland is also a member of Hanoi FC.

Meanwhile, Mr. Quang Ha is now a member of the Board of Directors of Hanoi T&T Sports Joint Stock Company, working in youth football as a manager developing the Hanoi Youth Football Training Center while also promoting business to generate revenue for the company.

Mr. Quang Ha shared: “I and Mr. Do Quang Hien are very close friends; we have kept in touch regularly over the years. Our friendship remains the same, and we always exchange plans for football development, especially Mr. Hien, who is very interested in youth football. Therefore, when I proposed developing youth football from the age of 8, expanding school football, and extending recruitment nationwide—a comprehensive plan for Hanoi football—Mr. Hien invited me back, and I immediately accepted.”

During a ceremony honoring and presenting a commemorative medal along with a Hanoi FC jersey bearing the number 350 – representing the number of matches played for Hanoi FC – to captain Nguyen Van Quyet, Chairman of Hanoi FC Do Vinh Quang said: “Quyet is a symbol of the team, a worthy role model for the younger generation to emulate. We always appreciate the contributions of everyone, and depending on each person's wishes and abilities, we will create the best conditions for them to continue to be involved in the team's ecosystem. We always hope to bring joy and happiness to all those who have been dedicated and devoted to Hanoi FC. The philosophy, culture, and tradition of Hanoi FC is to live well together, share and overcome all difficulties together, and move forward hand in hand.”

WHY IS THERE ONLY THE SHORT NAME: HANOI CLUB?

It would be remiss not to mention the details of why the club was founded in 2006 under the name T&T Hanoi, then changed to Hanoi T&T in 2010, and from 2016 to the present day, it has been called Hanoi?

Mr. Hien, the founder of the club, made it very clear:

A football team's brand is not only judged by many criteria such as: stadium, number of members, team value, media products, on-field success, level of fan satisfaction... but also by its traditional values and rich history.

For loyal fans, they pour their aspirations and love into the name of their team. For them, football is made up of blood, sweat, and tears. Therefore, their team is often their second family. Thus, the team's name embodies the emotions and feelings that the fans have for it.

When it comes to love, the value doesn't lie in how much the team or its name is worth, but in approaching it with all your heart. Simply put, a team's name isn't something to buy or sell. That name is historical value, it's the soul of the team.

How many people have wondered why the team's name and the heart always go together? Has anyone wondered why the team's logo – its symbol – is placed right where the heart is on the front of the team's jersey?

Asking the question is already answering it. That's the kind of attitude Chairman Hien, a football figure, always shows gratitude and respect for historical values and traditions.
